Redfoot Tortoise
Turtle encounters with motor vehicles produce
the most frequent source of injured turtles received by the Turtle &
Tortoise society. The image below is of a Redfoot tortoise, Geochelone
carbonaria. The tortoise was brought in to one of the area emergency
veterinary clinics, which turned the tortoise over to the Society for
care. The tortoise is not indigenous to the area and is most likely an
escaped pet. The white powder on the crack borders is and antibiotic which
aids in bone healing. The turtle is under long term care at a
dedicated turtle care giver. Click on the image below for a closer look.
