Box Turtle as Chew Toy

Every year the Turtle & Tortoise Society receives calls from people who discovered that their dog has found a turtle and used it as a chew toy. The images below are of a male eastern box turtle, Terrapene carolina carolina, rescued from the jaws of a playful pooch who did not understand that chewing on a turtle could kill it. It is being cared for by a dedicated turtle care giver. Click on the images below for a closer look.
